<aside> 🙏 Taking time off can feel difficult, especially in a startup. But we strongly encourage everyone to plan ahead, take time off to recharge, spend time with loved ones, or explore new things.

Taking time off can feel difficult, especially in a startup. Reasons we see are often these:

And there's truth to all of these. Especially as in startups there often just isn't someone else to do the work, so your to-do-list only gets longer and there really aren't enough hours in the day sometimes.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't allow yourself to take a break. Working in an early-stage companies often feels like 'work hard, play hard, burn out'. But it's no good to you, nor Bonnet, if we don’t all collectively work sustainably.

Our principles

  1. Keep it simple Just log your time off in Humaans and give your manager a heads up, no need to share any details.

  2. Prevention is better than cure

Finishing an hour early, or starting a bit later due to medical appointments is absolutely fine, and you won’t need to give us any details. Everyone's got different things going on. Just make sure your team knows that you’re offline in advance, and that no work is being effected.

  3. Give energy, don’t take energy

Plan ahead and genuinely disconnect – your team will thank you, you'll go offline less stressed, and you'll return without having to play catch-up. We know that it's hard to plan time off, but please aim to give 2 weeks’ notice.
